Woodbury, NY – June 4, 2025 – The grounds of Walt Whitman Elementary School buzzed with excitement today as students from Kindergarten through Fifth Grade gathered for their highly anticipated annual Field Day. This year's event carried a special significance, marking the final Field Day for beloved educator Mr. Fitz before his upcoming retirement. Alongside Ms. Ciaramitaro and Mr. Dolinger, Mr. Fitz orchestrated a day brimming with laughter, friendly competition, and boundless energy, creating cherished memories for all.
The atmosphere was electric, amplified by a lively DJ who kept the students dancing and spirits high with an eclectic mix of encouraging and upbeat music. From chart-toppers to timeless classics, the infectious beats ensured there wasn't a still body on the field.
The day's activities were a testament to teamwork and good sportsmanship. Students were divided into vibrant red, white, and gray teams, rotating through a diverse array of stations. A heartwarming highlight was watching the fifth graders guide their kindergarten buddies through the various challenges, offering encouragement and a helping hand. Events ranged from the ever-popular Sack Race and precise Corn Hole, to the agility-testing Base Running and the refreshing Fill the Bucket relay. "The Dash" saw students unleash their speed, while the classic Tug of War demonstrated collective strength. Other crowd-pleasers included Can Jam, testing frisbee skills, and the collaborative Soccer Relay. Finally, Make It Take It, a basketball activity, allowed students to show off their shooting skills.
"It's been absolutely fantastic to see all the students engaged and having such a wonderful time," shared Mr. Fitz, his voice tinged with emotion. Ms. Ciaramitaro added, "Field Day is always a highlight, and the energy this year was simply incredible, thanks to our amazing DJ and the enthusiasm of every child.
