SHS Math Teacher John Chae Receives RIT Distinguished Teacher Award

Syosset High School math teacher John Chae was recently honored by Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) as part of the Distinguished Teacher Recognition Program. He was nominated for the award by former Syosset High School student Laura Weintraub.

Each year, RIT Outstanding Undergraduate Scholar Award recipients are given the opportunity to nominate high school or community college teachers that have had a profound impact on their academic career. “Mr. Chae has been supportive and helpful in fostering my love for math and sparking a new interest in computing,” Laura stated in her nomination submission. “Mr. Chae’s ability to push me toward computing has led me to purse a degree in cybersecurity with a focus in software development.”

This is the second year in a row a Syosset High School teacher has been recognized by RIT, with math teacher Mike Cascone receiving the award in 2018.
