7th Grade Students Write Poetry in Response to A Long Walk to Water and a New York Times Article

Students created poetry, using the Haiku format of a 5-7-5 syllabic structure, to express their response to a portion of the novel, A Long Walk to Water. During the following Google Meet, classes analyzed the poetry, noting the writer's use of figurative language, the poem's overall mood, and the speaker's message. Of course, we had the benefit of having our "poets-in-residence" to explain their vision and inspiration.
