The HBT Community Celebrates its Spirit - Virtually!
HBT is known for its exciting and intense Spirit Weeks, and the week of March 23 to the 27th was no exception - but there was a twist! Thompson faculty, staff, students, and community members came together online to prove that we are all still very much connected despite being at home.
On Monday, Thompson celebrated “Superheroes Day” to honor healthcare and hospital workers as well as first responders and other essential workers on the frontlines of fighting the coronavirus pandemic. Mr. Bonanno honored New York’s bravest with his FDNY shirt, while Mrs. Snyder sported some Avengers apparel!
Tuesday was “School Colors Day” featuring students and staff dressed proudly in red and black and their favorite Syosset gear. Lots of Thompson and Syosset love was shown! Mrs. Mills-Carroll showed the “strength” of the Syosset community with a picture of her lifting a very heavy weight, and even Ms. Pross’s dog showed its spirit with a “Camp HBT” shirt!
On Wednesday, “Dress Like a Senior Citizen Day,” some students aged 70+ years to honor society’s most vulnerable. Mrs. Sears and Mrs. Mammolito’s daughter dressed for the occasion with their best gray hair and glasses!
Thursday was “Jersey Day”! Students and staff dressed in the gear of their favorite sports teams that can’t play right now. Mrs. Villalba, Mrs. Rossi, and Ms. Giacopino showed some Mets pride while a well-meaning Ms. Nunziato showed her lack of professional sports knowledge by wearing a Giants shirt - who aren’t in season anyway.
On Friday, everyone celebrated “Pajama Day”: the best part of learning from home (should we make pajamas our new school uniform?). Mrs. Gonzales certainly looked extra comfy in her fluffy robe!
It was so wonderful to see everyone within the Thompson community to come together and show that despite the distance, we are all still connected!
