On September 21, 2021 the Syosset High School student body participated as a whole in a Walk-a-Thon to support the Dezy Strong Foundation. Matthew “Dezy” DiStefano was a Sachem student, teacher and athlete. In February 2018, Dezy was diagnosed with Stage 4 Kidney Cancer.  Since that time, he dedicated himself to conquering the disease, while at the same time, creating the Dezy Strong Foundation to help support others affected by cancer.  The foundation looks to provide opportunities for cancer patients to have access to experiences that "directly affect a positive mental well-being," Unfortunately Matthew passed away from cancer on January 27, 2020 but his legacy lives on through his foundation. The students raised over $2,000 for this important cause. #syostrong!
