Forensics, Syosset High School’s New York State Champion speech and debate team, continued its success during the coronavirus quarantine.
— The National Speech and Debate Association awarded Syosset the School of Excellence Award — given to the top 20 teams in the USA
— June graduate Asher Gladstone won the nation-wide online Great Communicator Debates, sponsored by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, for the second year in a row! He will next compete with 15 regional winners throughout the USA for the national title and scholarship money.
— In the world’s largest academic competition, 6,500 students from 1,420 schools competed in the week-long tournament in June. Chika Brown finished 5th in the country in Dramatic Performance and Ronit Dhulia took 5th place in Debate. Leyla Hagan, Asher Gladstone and Isabella Souza also won top awards. Congratulations to these students and the remainder of the team, Jason Lan, Brett Fabregas, Deanna Mancuso, Elizabeth Huang, Arjun Chadha, and Krish Pamnani, all of whom qualified for nationals by winning competitions throughout the New York City area. Forensics coach/advisor Lydia Esslinger shares the team's disappointment in not being able to defend its three-year title as the best high school speech and debate team in New York State but hopes--with everyone--the upcoming school year sees a return to normal.
