Mrs. Mandy Boonshaft, 6th Grade Band Director, South Woods Middle School, presented at two international conferences in Australia during the summer of 2019.
Maryborough Music Conference, Queensland, Australia:
Mrs. Mandy Boonshaft was invited to present a session titled “Teaching Flute for The Non-Flutist.” This workshop was designed to offer teaching strategies, best practices and pedagogical tools for band directors and music teachers.
The Maryborough Music Conference 2019, held from July 9-12 at the Brolga Theatre and Convention Centre, is a biannual conference sponsored by the Queensland Government, Department of Education and Training. It is recognized as Australia’s premier music educator’s event. This four-day conference offers sessions led by world renowned national and international music educators, conductors and clinicians.
Sydney Music Education Conference, New South Wales, Australia:
Mrs. Boonshaft was invited to present a session on flute pedagogy as part of the Conference’s “How To” series of workshops for music teachers. In addition, she was a clinician for the Conference Director’s Band. This three-part session had band directors playing secondary instruments as Mrs. Boonshaft helped them play those unfamiliar instruments.
The Sydney Music Education Conference, held at The Australian Institute of Music, is sponsored by the Australian School Band and Orchestra Festival, Australia’s largest concert band and orchestra adjudication festival, for which Mrs. Boonshaft has twice served as an adjudicator. This conference provides delegates with practical sessions designed to improve skills, broaden understanding, and reflect on current developments in rehearsal techniques.
