On April 16th, the Willits Grade 1 Drama Club put on an amazing performance of Character Matters Too! This show featured the world’s experts in character education: “The Fairy Tale Advice Council,” led by Rapunzel, Cinderella, Humpty Dumpty, and the Big “Good” Wolf. The council offered help in character building to iconic fairy tale and folk characters. The show included appearances by Snow White, the Billy Goats Gruff, Little Red Riding Hood, Rumpelstiltskin, the Miller’s Daughter, Hansel and Gretel, the Boy who cried Duck, the Golden Rule Singers, and many more famous characters!
Through these characters, the audience learned important life lessons such as showing gratitude, being a helpful neighbor, never giving up, being polite, taking care of the Earth, and the Golden Rule. For example, the Princess from “The Princess and the Pea” taught others about good manners and being polite, and the troll learned that being a bully is never cool! The ducklings learned the Golden Rule. Snow White learned about gratitude.
The students looked amazing in their costumes and through song and silly humor, performed songs including: “It Pays to Be Polite, ” “I Never Give Up,” “Take Good Care,” and “I’m a Helpful Neighbor.” The students worked hard for months preparing to perform in front of their families, friends and peers. The students, set designers, and talented drama club advisors; Jill Mulherin and Denise Martinez are to be commended for a job well done!
