We had our first Punkin’ Chunkin’ Contest! Third graders worked in groups to design and create catapults based on their unit of study in science: Forces and Interactions. With the help of our enrichment teacher (and many adults!), Mrs. Rennard, the most successful catapult design was highlighted and created on a larger scale. Every class was asked to decorate a pumpkin to have “chunked” off the catapult. The entire school was delighted to make predictions, count down, and watch their pumpkin soar through the air before hitting the ground. Students measured how far their pumpkin flew and tried to understand why some went further than others. We hope to have this amazing event again in the future!
