• Military Voter Instructions

    Military voters who are not currently registered may apply to register as a qualified voter of the school district (a citizen of the U.S.; at least 18 years of age; and a resident of the District for 30 days before the election).

    Military voters who are qualified voters of the school district may submit an application for a military ballot. Military voters may designate a preference to receive a military voter registration, military ballot application or military ballot by mail, facsimile transmission or electronic mail in their request for such registration, ballot application or ballot. Military voter registration application forms and military ballot applications must be received in the Office of the District Clerk, 99 Pell Lane, Syosset, NY 11791 no later than 5:00 p.m. on September 5, 2024. No military ballot will be canvassed unless it is returned by mail or in person and received by the office of the District Clerk by no later than 5:00 p.m. on election day. The voter’s original military ballot application and ballot must be returned to the District Clerk by mail or in person.

    No military ballot will be canvassed unless it is returned by mail or in person and (1) received in the office of the District Clerk before the close of the polls on election day and showing a cancelation mark of the United States postal service or a foreign country’s postal service, or showing a dated endorsement of receipt by another agency of the United States government; or (2) received by the office of the District Clerk by no later than 5:00 p.m. on election day and signed and dated by the military voter and one witness thereto, with a date which is associated to be not later than the day before the election.

    Whenever a military ballot is requested to be received by fax or email, the voter must also be sent a form that includes the information normally appearing on the affirmation envelope to return the ballot.

    1. Paper military ballot;

    2. Instruction letter; 

    3. Official ballot envelope;

      1. For those receiving the military ballot by fax or email, please fill out the affirmation form and attach it to an envelope. 

    4. Return mailing envelope labeled “DISTRICT CLERK.” 

      1. For those receiving the military ballot by fax or email, please provide your own envelope. 

    Please remember to follow instructions when you are completing the ballot. 

    1. Place the completed ballot in the official ballot envelope.  

      1. For those receiving the military ballot by fax or email, place the completed ballot in an envelope, affix the completed affirmation form to the outside of the envelope.

    2. Sign and Date the back of the official ballot envelope that the ballot was placed in. 

      1. For those receiving the military ballot by fax or email, sign and date the affirmation form, affix the completed affirmation form to the outside of the envelope.

    3. Seal the official ballot envelope. 

    4. Insert the sealed and completed official ballot envelope in the envelope addressed to the District Clerk, Syosset Central School District, which is provided. 

    5. This envelope may be hand-delivered or postage may be affixed to the envelope and mailed to the District Clerk, Syosset Central School District, South Woods Middle School, 99 Pell Lane, Syosset, NY. 

      1. For those receiving the military ballot by fax or email, return the ballot affirmation envelope in another envelope, labeled Election Material, Please Expedite, addressed to:

                             South Woods Middle School 
                             99 Pell Lane
                             Syosset, New York 11791

    In accordance with the law, the office of the District Clerk must receive the absentee ballot no later than 5:00 p.m. on the day of the vote.
