Syosset CSD 2019-20 Budget Passes
Thank you to all of the residents who participated in the 2019-20 school district budget vote and trustee election. Voters approved the proposed budget 1,677 to 737. With this support, the District will continue to provide a full academic and co-curricular program and provide programmatic enhancements in the area of technology and student social/emotional health, while also addressing areas of our school infrastructure and providing further security enhancements.
Additionally, Proposition 2 to authorize the district to use a combination of reserves and state grant funds to upgrade the specifications of replacement classroom doors to include firearm resistance and a remotely controlled locking mechanism was approved, 1,834 to 705.
In the Board of Education election, four candidates ran for three seats in an at-large election. As one seat is currently vacant due to resignation, state law provides that the fourth highest vote-getter will serve a one-year term to fill the balance of the unexpired term. Tracy Frankel, Rob Gershon and Susan Parker have been re-elected. Thomas A. Rotolo was also elected. Ms. Parker will fill out the one-year term.
The final vote totals are as follows (listed by ballot position): Tracy Frankel–1,501, Robert Gershon–1,375, Court Cousins–1,241, Dr. Uzma Syed–1,177, Susan Parker–1,276, and Thomas A. Rotolo–1,288.
Again, thank you to all who voted and for your ongoing commitment to our schools.
