    Nominating Petitions

    Pursuant to Executive Order 202.26, Governor Cuomo has established June 9, 2020 as the revised date for the 2020 annual budget vote and election. Because of the pandemic, the vote will be exclusively by absentee ballot. There will be no voting at the polls. Every qualified voter will be sent an absentee ballot with a postage paid return envelope.

     

     

    To submit a BOE Candidate Petition follow the steps below…

    1. Candidate petitions can be obtained by emailing the District Clerk at districtclerk@syossetschools.org. No minimum number of signatures are required to be obtained under the Executive Order. To ensure the safety and welfare of school board candidates and the District Clerk, nominating petitions will be accepted via email and/or mail delivery to the Office of the District Clerk, South Woods Middle School, 99 Pell Lane, Syosset, NY 11791. Remember completed petitions are due no later than May 11, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.

     

    1. Eligibility Requirements for Candidates to the Board of Education are as follows: the candidate must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, a qualified voter in the school district, able to read and write, and a resident of the district continuously for at least one year before the election. At the time when the board member takes office, they cannot be employed by the Board on which they serve or live in the same household with a family member who is also a member of the same school board.

     

    1. Complete the ‘Report of Campaign Expenses and Contributions’ form (CLICK HERE). This form must be filed on the 30th day (May 11, 2020) and 5th day (June 4, 2020) before the election and again within 20 days (by June 29, 2020) after the election.     1. Complete a ‘Release of Name, Address and Telephone Number’ form (CLICK HERE). Return this form to the Office of the District Clerk via email at districtclerk@syossetschools.org. (CLICK HERE) for a Release of Name, Address and Telephone Number form in Spanish.
