HS Interact Club Wins $3,000 Video Prize

Members of Syosset’s Interact Club were issued a $3,000 check at their regularly scheduled meeting after the group entered and won a viewer-driven video contest highlighting their philanthropic efforts.

Through the nonprofit organization Team Up 4 Community and nutritional supplement manufacturer NBTY’s charity arm “Helping Hands,” the “L.I. Holiday Sports Heroes Challenge” invites high school students to submit a video promoting their charity efforts in the community. The Interact Club submitted a video that highlighted their “7 in 7” campaign, a bold initiative to provide seven life-saving heart surgeries to seven children on seven continents in seven days.

Former New York Islander and co-founder of Team Up 4 Community, Steve Webb was on hand with his wife and co-founder Teresa Webb to present the first-place check. Also in attendance to congratulate the club was Helping Hands board member and NBTY advertising director Gerard Battaglia.
The Interact Club officers and club advisor Carisa Steinberg accepted the check as the rest of the club applauded. The money will go towards the $35,000 needed to perform all seven surgeries, which are scheduled to take place in May.
