Congratulations to fifth grader, Samuel Wang, South Grove’s 2017 - 2018 Geo Bee Champion. Samuel is South Grove’s first two-time winner, having earned this title last year as a fourth grader. As South Grove’s Geo Bee Champ, Samuel is one step closer to a chance of a $50,000 college scholarship. Samuel will take a qualifying exam to see if he can again earn a place at the state level of the Bee. Thousands of schools around the United States and in the five U.S. territories are participating in the 2018 National Geographic Bee. The school champions, including Samuel will take a qualifying test; up to 100 of the top scorers on that test in each state will then be eligible to compete in their state Bee in April. The National Geographic Society will provide an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C., for state winners to participate in the Bee national championship rounds in May. The first place national champion will receive a $50,000 college scholarship, a lifetime membership in the Society, including a subscription to National Geographic magazine, and an all-expenses-paid expedition to the Galápagos Islands. Congratulations also to our second place winner, Ebaad Jaffery, and our third place winner, Sam Gerson. Congratulations to all our other finalists and participants…and good luck, Samuel!
