HS Wrestler is Newsday’s Athlete of the Week

Athlete of the Week
Congratulations to Syosset High School senior Vito Arujau who was recently named Newsday’s  Athlete of the Week. Vito is having an amazing wrestling career, earning his 200th win at Syosset against Westbury and being named Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Cold Spring Harbor Dual Tournament last month.

He also placed second in the 58 kilograms category at 2016 Cadet World Championships held in Tbilisi, Georgia in September, which is considered to be the premier wrestling tournament for high school students in the world. He also finished first in his weight class at the Super 32 national competition held in Greensboro, North Carolina in October.

Vito has wrestled for Syosset High School since the eighth grade with his only defeat coming in his first year. He is attempting to become a four-time state champion, a feat that has only been accomplished by a handful of wrestlers in New York State. Vito’s brother Nick, who also wrestled for Syosset, was a three-time NYS champ. Vito signed a national letter of intent to wrestle at Cornell University next fall.
