A Blue Ribbon Congratulations

The Syosset Board of Education hosted a special public celebration to commemorate Syosset High School’s designation as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. Special guests included Regent Roger Tilles of the New York State Board of Regents and State Assemblyman Charles Lavine, who both congratulated and presented the district with certificates recognizing this special accomplishment.

In addition to the accolades from Tilles and Lavine, Syosset Superintendent of Schools Dr. Thomas Rogers and Syosset High School Principal Dr. Giovanni Durante accepted a certificate from the office of State Sen. Carl Marcellino, who was unable to attend in person. Tilles also delivered the official Blue Ribbon plaque from the U.S. Department of Education.

Dr. Rogers reaffirmed that all of the district’s schools are to be commended for their commitment to excellence in preparing students for their high school experience.

The Adelettes, the Brave Gentlemen Quartet and two quintets of string musicians gave musical performances, all representing the high school.

Earlier last month, members of the Board of Education, Dr. Rogers and central administration attended a special faculty meeting at the high school to honor their staff and Blue Ribbon Steering Committee members.

Syosset High School is one of just 279 public and 50 private schools in the country to receive this honor.  As a recipient of the Exemplary High Performing Blue Ribbon School honor, performance on state and national exams and graduation rates as well as school operations, curricula, professional development, leadership, and community and family involvement are all taken into account.
