Members of Syosset High School’s chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society were invited to make a presentation to music teachers at the 81st Annual New York State School Music Association Winter Conference in Rochester. The presentation, titled “How to Advocate for Your School’s Music Program Through Tri-M,” gave Syosset students the opportunity to speak about their individual roles in the honor society, the types of activities they sponsor, and how their actions promote and support the school’s music program. Students also spoke about the many community outreach programs they run and how they assist at many of the music department’s events.

The presentation was well-attended by music teachers from across New York State, who asked many questions and showed their appreciation to the student presenters. Syosset High School band director Rona Pontecorvo is the school’s Tri-M advisor and also serves as NYSSMA’s state chairperson for the honor society.
