Kindergartners at A.P. Willits and Baylis elementary schools recently learned about the life cycle of animals, including baby chicks. Students placed chick eggs in an incubator and anxiously awaited their hatch. Adding an engineering component to their unit, they designed “Super Coops” for the chicks to live in once they hatched. Each student learned basic design and building concepts in creating their coops. They also thought about what chicks needed to survive before collecting various materials to place in their coops. Once the chicks were born, they were welcomed into their happy, habitable and highly creative new homes.
