Students Talk Careers with the Pros

As part of the Syosset High School's SYOTALKS "Careers Worth Discussing" campaign, Matt Fiasconaro’s business education class recently welcomed ESPN feature producer John Minton to speak with about 40 students.

The SYOTALKS campaign brings in local speakers in an effort to educate and expose students to different careers.  Most of the students who met with Minton have a strong interest in journalism and television production. Minton, who produces the hit investigative journalism cable television show E:60, spoke about his experiences of covering the World Cup in Brazil, creating a feature on legendary soccer player Pele, and attending multiple Super Bowls and ESPY awards. He also gave students a sneak peak into a piece he is currently working on about a runner from Northport and told them that hard work and determination definitely pay off.

Additionally, Fiasconaro’s business students with a strong interest in sports marketing visited the Barclays Center in Brooklyn to attend a New York Islanders hockey game, where they met Brooklyn Sports and Entertainment Account Executive Michael Minnella, who spoke about internships, networking and marketing to the new Brooklyn fan base.
