South Woods Middle School students recently learned about the importance of being active citizens from Aimee Holtzman, founder of the nonprofit organization Rock CAN Roll.

Rock CAN Roll is a hunger relief organization and think tank whose mission is to stock the shelves of emergency food agencies with healthy, nonperishable foods and provisions. Holtzman gave a presentation at South Woods that incorporated the experiences of South Woods students who worked with Rock CAN Roll last spring through the school’s Triple A and Future Leaders of America clubs. These students shared their experiences and passion to end hunger on Long Island and helped to kick off the South Woods CARES fall focus to end local hunger (pictured with Holtzman).

This year, South Woods will hold a walkathon on Oct. 30 to benefit Rock CAN Roll. All members of the school community will be asked to bring one can of food for the cause to show that “South Woods CAN end hunger!”
